David Harper, Director of Leisure Property Services is a senior figure in the hotel property world involved in valuations, rent reviews, disposals and operator selections for more than 20 years. David is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and author of two books Valuation of Hotels for Investors; and Hotels and Resorts: An Investor’s Guide. These are the only comprehensive text books covering all aspects of hotel ownership, including how to assess potential hotel sites, rents and sales values.

He is also the author of the Hotel section and also the Spa section on the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) website (iSURV), which provides valuation advice for Chartered Surveyors across the world. David specialises in securing “off market” investment opportunities for the firm’s clients.

COLLABORATIONS

David joined forces with two other pre-eminent hotel industry consultants in Africa, Hotel Spec and W Hospitality, and together they form Hotel Partners Africa.  Hotel Partners Africa is unique in providing a one stop shop to cover the full range of consulting services for a hospitality project on the African continent.

David is also an experienced RICS accredited Expert Witness specialising in Hotels. He is a regular speaker at conferences and an industry commentator. Recent speaking engagements include matters as diverse as hotel valuation, operator selection, the impact of terrorism and selling hotels. He has written a large number of articles for property and investment publications on various hotel related subjects and contributed to many others.

David is on the advisory panel for AHIF, the African Hotel Investment Forum. David is also the author of “The Africa Report”, a biennial analysis of hotel values across Africa. This report has become the leading authority on the state of hotel markets in sub-Saharan Africa.

FUND RAISING

David is the founder of the “Madness group”, which undertakes challenges raising money for charity. Events he has organised include playing the world’s highest ever game of cricket at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro (Mt Kili Madness) and walking across North America, wearing pink cricket pads (Cross Continental Madness).

He has also completed a number of other challenges to help raise money for cancer research, including taking part in an around the world sailing race, bungy jumping off Victoria Falls, abseiling off Twickenham Stadium, cycling from London to Amsterdam and jumping out of an aeroplane.

INTERESTS

David loves watching sports, and is particularly passionate about cricket and rugby, having traveled around the world to watch England play. He has played cricket on all seven continents.

He enjoys hiking, scuba diving, reading and travelling.
